A lab build-out in Kendall Square produces its own kind of leftover: part-used reels of MC, sealed boxes of Cat6A, tray cable cut for a routing that changed twice. When the tenant takes the space and the contractor demobilizes, that material sits in a loading area off Binney Street or a storage cage near Alewife. We buy it from the business that owns it, whether that is the contractor, the building or the tenant.
Unused is the word that matters. Sealed boxes, banded reels, wire with the footage still legible on the tag. We take partial reels too, as long as we can see what is left. THHN and THWN-2, XHHW-2 feeder, MC and AC, tray cable, fire alarm cable, coax and data. What we buy is wire and cable, and that is the whole list. Nothing else from the job site comes with it.
Pricing comes off the wire itself. The drum tag gives footage, size and strand. The jacket print gives the temperature rating and voltage class. A flange stencil or a printed brand tells us who made it. Photograph all three, add a tape measure across the outer wrap on a partial reel, and we can quote without visiting. When a tag is missing we can still work from the jacket print and an approximate diameter.
Cambridge does not offer much room to load. Kendall has dock reservations and fixed service windows. Alewife buildings have garages with clearance limits. Older blocks in Inman and Central have no dock at all, just a door and a sidewalk. Tell us what the building allows and we will size the truck to it, bring a pallet jack, and hand-carry what has to be carried. We travel to Cambridge and work to your building's rules.

Can you take a partial reel from a lab renovation in Kendall Square?
Yes, if the remaining length can be estimated. A tape measure across the outer wrap and a clear photo of the tag usually settles it. Very short tails of a few dozen feet are harder to place, and we say so rather than lowball them.
Do you buy sealed boxes of data cable?
Yes. Sealed boxes of Cat6, Cat5e and coax are straightforward, especially with the box label visible. Opened boxes with loose coils are priced by length and condition instead of by the box.
How do you handle a building with no loading dock?
We schedule a street window, bring a liftgate truck and a pallet jack, and move reels through the door you nominate. If the landlord wants a certificate of insurance before we arrive, ask for it when you send photos.
Is wire from a decommissioned lab handled differently?
Only in condition. Wire that ran in a lab is the same copper or aluminum inside as anywhere else. What matters is whether it is dry, undamaged, still on a reel, and whether the jacket print can be read.
