Building wire

WE BUY SURPLUS BUILDING WIRE — THHN, THWN AND XHHW

THHN, THWN-2, XHHW and XHHW-2 move through every commercial job in the state, which is why partial reels pile up in every shop. We buy unused building wire in #14 through 1000 MCM, in copper and aluminum.

Building wire we buy from Massachusetts businesses

  • THHN and THWN-2 in all standard colors
  • XHHW and XHHW-2 copper and aluminum
  • Feeder wire in #2 through 1000 MCM
  • Branch circuit wire in #14, #12 and #10
  • MTW and machine tool wire
  • RHW and RHH building wire, when unused
  • Bare and green grounding conductors

Building wire is the volume material of the trade, and the surplus follows the job. A contractor who pulled #12 THHN for a tenant fit-out may finish with six partial spools. A distributor may hold a discontinued color or a carton that was opened and never used. A plant may have a stock room of XHHW that was bought for a project that never started.

Pricing comes down to four facts: the size, the insulation type, the color and how much is left. A full 500 foot or 1000 foot factory spool with the label intact is the cleanest kind of submission. A partial spool with 180 feet on it is still reviewed, but the number reflects the smaller remaining length and the labor of re-handling it.

Photograph the spool label and the wire end, then note the footage you believe remains. If a dozen spools are involved, one wide photo of the shelf plus close photos of the labels is enough to start. We would rather review a rough inventory than have a shop sit on wire it will never use.

Questions

Building wire questions

Do you buy opened cartons of THHN?

Yes, if the wire is unused and the remaining length can be estimated. Photograph the label and the coil, and note roughly how much is left.

Does color matter on building wire?

It can. Standard black, white, red, blue, green and bare are the easiest to place. Odd colors and striped constructions are still considered but the demand is narrower.

How much building wire is too little to sell?

There is no fixed minimum, but small partial spools in small sizes are usually not worth a dedicated trip. Bundling them with larger reels in the same request makes the lot workable.
