Aluminum is not a lesser grade for the purposes of a quote, but it is a different review. Size, alloy, stranding, insulation and the application the cable was built for all matter. A 4/0 aluminum SER reel and a 4/0 aluminum URD reel are not interchangeable, and the price reflects that. The jacket print settles most of it in a single photo.
In Massachusetts the largest share of surplus aluminum we see comes from service upgrades, multi-family and commercial feeders, and utility-side work. Contractors finish a service change and are left with a partial reel of SER, or a distributor is holding a discontinued URD construction that no longer matches what the utility wants. Both are the kind of material we want to look at.
Send the size, the voltage rating and the footage with a photo of the reel tag. If the cable was stored outside and the jacket has been in standing water, say so. It still gets reviewed, but the condition note belongs in the first message rather than in the last one.

Do you buy aluminum wire as well as copper?
Yes. Aluminum feeder, service and underground cable are reviewed on the same process as copper. Add the size and voltage rating so the construction can be identified.
My aluminum reels were stored outdoors. Is that a problem?
Not automatically. It affects the review. Tell us how long the material was outside and whether water sat in the reel, and include photos of the jacket and the exposed end.
Can you take a mixed lot of copper and aluminum reels?
Yes, list both in one request and photograph each reel separately. Mixed lots are quoted line by line so you can see what each reel is worth.
