Large reels of shielded power cable stored outdoors at an industrial site

Medium and high voltage cable

WE BUY SURPLUS MEDIUM AND HIGH VOLTAGE CABLE

Medium voltage cable is the highest-value and least forgiving material we review. We look at unused 5kV through 35kV and 69kV cable, EPR and XLPE, shielded and concentric neutral, across Massachusetts.

Medium and high voltage cable we buy from Massachusetts businesses

  • 5kV and 8kV shielded power cable
  • 15kV EPR and XLPE cable, 100% and 133% insulation
  • 25kV and 35kV cable
  • 69kV and above, by review
  • Concentric neutral underground distribution cable
  • Copper tape shielded and wire shielded constructions
  • Trirated and LSZH variants where specified

At this voltage level the cable is engineered, not just manufactured, and the review has to match. Insulation level, shield type, jacket, conductor size and the standard it was built to all affect whether a reel can be reused and what it is worth. A reel with no tag and no legible print is very hard to place, so documentation is worth more here than in any other category.

Surplus medium voltage in Massachusetts usually comes from utility and industrial distribution work, campus and hospital infrastructure, and large commercial projects where the service design changed after the cable was delivered. Reels are often large, sometimes several thousand pounds, and usually stored outdoors, so the jacket and the reel condition get close attention.

Send the voltage class, insulation type, conductor size and material, shield construction, the standard printed on the jacket, and the full length. Include the reel tag and a photo of the sealed end. If the reel has been cut into, say so, because a cut medium voltage reel is a materially different item.

Medium voltage review checklist

Complete documentation is what separates a straightforward medium voltage quote from an inspection visit.

  • Voltage class and insulation level
  • Insulation and jacket compound, EPR or XLPE
  • Conductor material, size and stranding
  • Shield type, concentric neutral or tape shield
  • Full factory length, reel tag and sealed ends

We buy from across the state, including every Massachusetts region, and review material against the same standard whether it is one reel or a warehouse shelf.

Questions

Medium and high voltage cable questions

Do you buy 15kV cable without documentation?

It is difficult. Without a tag or legible print the voltage class and insulation level cannot be confirmed, and no responsible buyer will guess. Send the best photos you have and we will tell you what can be established.

Is a cut medium voltage reel still of interest?

Sometimes. The remaining length and the condition of the factory seal at the cut end both matter. Describe the cut and photograph the end.

Can you handle very large reels?

Yes, with notice. Give the reel diameter and weight and describe the access so the right trailer and lifting equipment are arranged.

Reels sitting in the yard? Get them priced.

Send the wire type, size and a few photos. We will review the material and tell you what it is worth before anything moves.
